55% of UK businesses aren’t ready for GDPR – Our unique hands-on workshop with an expert GDPR data consultant will give you the tools you need for YOUR business to comply, simply and easily.
The EU’s General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) will apply from 25 May 2018, when it supersedes the UK Data Protection Act 1998. Significant and wide-reaching in scope, the new law brings a 21st-century approach to data protection. It expands the rights of individuals to control how their personal information is collected and processed and places a range of new obligations on organisations to be more accountable for data protection.
GDPR compliance is not just a matter of ticking a few boxes; the Regulation demands that you be able to demonstrate compliance with the data protection principles. This involves taking a risk-based approach to data protection, ensuring appropriate policies and procedures are in place to deal with the transparency, accountability and individuals’ rights provisions, as well as building a workplace culture of data privacy and security.
With the appropriate compliance framework in place, not only will you be able to avoid significant fines and reputational damage, you will also be able to show customers that you are trustworthy and responsible, and derive added value from the data you hold.
Who will benefit from attending the workshop?
Anyone who has a responsibility for handling the personal data of others in a business capacity will benefit in particular. From the opposite direction, it is in everyone’s interests to understand the obligations all businesses will have under the GDPR.
What delegates will have learnt by the end of the workshop:
- an understanding of how the data protection laws came about and the GDPR’s format;
- the 6 underlying principles of the GDPR plus the concept of accountability;
- an appreciation of what comprises personal data;
- the lawful conditions of processing;
- the general conditions for consent;
- the importance of privacy notices;
- the rights of data subjects;
- the concept of privacy by design; and
- a way of looking at internal processes that can be applied to own businesses.
The workshop will comprise a mixture of presentation, delegate Q&A and a mini data flow exercise to pull together aspects of the workshop content in a realistic scenario. It will attempt to get delegates to see the world from the point of view of the ‘data subject’ as well as from a business perspective.
